Frequently asked questions

Why does Photo Patterns need photo access?

The app reads the photos you authorize to build an on-device timeline, map, EXIF statistics, patterns, and search index. You may grant Limited Access and choose only selected photos. Photo Patterns does not edit or delete originals.

Why are some camera settings or locations unknown?

Screenshots, scans, edited exports, messaging-app copies, and some cameras do not preserve every EXIF field. Photo Patterns keeps these items in visible “Unknown” groups instead of guessing missing values.

Why is analysis waiting?

Capture metadata is indexed first. On-device subject analysis may pause for Low Power Mode, heat, low storage, or iCloud availability and resume later. Completed results remain available. Check Settings → Analysis & models for the current state.

Does the app upload my photos?

No original photo is uploaded to a Photo Patterns server. Apple Photos may download an iCloud-only item, MapKit may load map content, and Apple's system geocoder may resolve an embedded photo coordinate. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I reset the app?

Open Settings → Export & clear → Clear Photo Patterns data. This removes the derived index, caches, recent searches, and saved searches from the app, but never deletes photos from Apple Photos. You can then start a fresh analysis.

What devices are supported?

The first release supports iPhone on iOS 18 or later. iPad, Mac, Android, accounts, cloud sync, photo editing, and photo deletion are not part of this release.
